Marlborough ladies 1 st kicked off the first half with a positive mindset to win and hold Chippenham off. However, a slow start from Marlborough, Chippenham took advantage and scored their first goal (1-0). This triggered a fire in Marlborough and with some great passing around the back from Beth Palfrey and Emily Carter-Davies we saw the ball get up the other end and with some nifty skills from Jess Davis getting the ball past their midfield. We got awarded a short corner and with a deflection from Bella Busby we got our first goal! Chloe Darlington had some amazing saves preventing Chippenham from scoring, and with Annabel Ashley and Amy Davidson out wide running the lines getting the ball to the forwards we had more opportunities on goal. Unfortunately, Chippenham scored again, against the run of play but nevertheless, Marlborough fought back and Annabel Ashley received the ball in the middle from Rachel Cox and ran it all the way she cut in
at the baseline and had a shot on goal. Our second goal was scored 2-2. As half time was approaching Rachel Cox, Kitty Cleaver and Alice Thompson were running around the Chippenham midfield endlessly looking for more opportunities to get the ball to the Marlborough forwards Milly Dawson, Catherine Manley and Bella Busby.
Half time 2-2
Entering the second half Marlborough was a bit relaxed but Chippenham still couldn’t get through our defence and with strong pressure on their 16’s by our forwards and mid who were constantly marking their defenders resulting in us being awarded many short corners and eventually we scored again with Bella Busby injecting to Beth Palfrey who slapped the ball in. 3-2. Throughout the game, Marlborough really showed how they play well as a team with simple and easy passes to each other we were able to continuously get the ball past Chippenham and up the other end. After more pressure Marlborough were awarded another short corner, the ball was injected to
the top of the D to Rachel Cox who slipped it to Kitty Cleaver and Bella Busby moved in on the post and deflected it in, as planned. 4-2 to Marlborough. Our final goal was scored from a pass from Rachel Cox in the middle to Kitty Cleaver on the left, which gave her
the opportunity to have a shot on goal and with a straight strike from the top of the D we watched the ball hit the backboard with seconds to go left in the game. Giving Marlborough a 5-2 win over Chippenham 2.
Man of the match went to Rachel Cox and Annabel Ashley with their amazing and consistent play throughout the game!
