With only the bare 11 players, Marlborough ladies drove all the way down to Bournemouth hopeful to come away with a win. After a very long drive and a great team chat from team captain Emily Carter-Davies , Marlborough ladies 1s headed out ready for the tough game ahead.
However, unfortunately, minutes after the match had begun, defender Anna Scott tore something in her calf leaving her hobbling off the pitch, and leaving Marlborough ladies with only 10 players! Nonetheless, Marlborough ladies remained in high spirits and played on with amazing work rate and determination from everyone on the pitch. Bournemouth closed down quickly and had had a very solid press, but some excellent hits from Emily Carter-Davies and some great runs out wide from forward Nyah Brooks, Milly Dawson and inner Alice Thompson meant that Marlborough was able to catch Bournemouth on the break, and attack their goal! After successfully leaving a clean sheet in the first 20 minutes of the match, Bournemouth scored their first goal after some slick hockey but unfortunately it came off one of our players. Despite this everyone kept giving it their all and due to everyone's hard work, the scoreline remained 1-0 until the half time whistle blew. Yet another motivational team talk from Emily Carter-Davies and Anna Scott, left the team ready again to show Bournemouth what we where made of. Even though winds from storm Gareth where mad, Marlborough fought on. Unfortunately, in the first 10 minutes of the second half Bournemouth scored again leaving the scoreline 2-0. Marlborough ladies endured on as Amy Davidson and Annabel Ashley displayed their usual flare and speed down the lines, getting the ball up and out of our defensive half. The sides became fairly equal, with Bournemouth applying pressure on our solid defence. Some excellent saves from goalie Issy Davies, and our amazing defence and our MOM Rachel Cox ensured the ball was kept out of the back of the net for the rest of the half. Fab skills from Kitty Cleaver and Jess Davis in the middle meant we could keep attacking the D. Finally, in the last 5 minutes of the game, some incredible joint play from Rach Cox and Jess Davis
meant Marlborough scored their first goal from Rachel Cox! This left the final scoreline 2-1! You wouldn’t have known Marlborough had only 10 players thanks to everyone's work rate and and team effort, everyone was incredible! Congrats to well deserved MOM Rachel Cox who scored for both Bournemouth and Marlborough;)
