It was a miserable day in Bath, with drizzling rain and thick fog. Despite the conditions both teams played extremely well. Bath took an early lead following an aggressive push up the pitch, however brilliant play from Ellie and Gabbie led to a deflection by Millie, which made the score 1-1. Bath had some great runs but, thanks to brilliant defensive play from Sarah and Emily, they came to nothing. Every member of the team managed to convert the training from earlier in the week into some impressive wall passes. A fantastic pass through the middle from Verity, allowed Freya to make a clear run to goal, her shot to the post led to another deflection by Millie. This made the score 2-1 to Marlborough at half time, thanks also to some impressive defending and goal keeping in a last minute short corner.
In the second half Marlborough continued their strong play and from a hit out, the ball was passed up the pitch to Freya, who scored a brilliant goal, making the score 3-1. Bath tried their best to get back on level terms, and managed to score one more goal, making the score 3-2. Another impressive surge by Bath resulted in a goal but it was overturned by the umpire. In the last few minutes Ellie extended the Marlborough lead by scoring a wonderful goal making the final score 4-2.
We hope to continue to play this style of hockey in the coming weeks.
