It was a cold and rainy start to Saturdays match against West Wilts 2’s, however the weather did not affect our positive attitude. With 13 players ready for action, we were bombarded by a strong attack from the opposition. Marlborough’s fierce defence: Katie, Sophie and Darcy were able to protect Chloe’s netted kingdom and prevent any unwanted goals. After an outburst of renewed passion, Tori and Fi penetrated middle no mans land and passed to the high forwards in the oppositions territory. After an intense ricochet of shots, our attackers Meg, Verity and Zara were unable to infiltrate the padded giants goal. Even after numerous short corners, Marlborough were still unable to win a goal. All players worked back to guard the D with the likes of Maddy and Holly working with the defence to shield our goal. The first half ended 0-0.
The second half started secure as the weather cleared however lengthy runs from Meg and Millie still concluded in no goals. Lou held the middle yet after a charge from West Wilts and a kerfuffle in the D it resulted in a short corner. Unfortunately a goal was scored. We started again with energy’s high - the inners and forwards worked hard to support the defence. However another foot in the D issued a loathsome short corner which resulted in another goal terminating the match at 0-2.
Overall the game did not reflect the true endeavour that was shown in our performance. POTM went to Holly, who held positive determination. An amazing effort by all!
