4. Dealing with an Incident or Accident

MHC-Safety Procedures
Guidelines for Dealing with an Incident/Accident

• Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of injury/further injuries?

• If necessary, evacuate the pitch in a calm and controlled manner and proceed to the area between the 2 pitches.

• If there is an injury, listen to what the injured person is saying.

• Alert the First Aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries.

• In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services. It may be appropriate to go to the College Sanatorium for advice. Coaches mobile phones are available pitch side. The Sanatorium is located on the left (opposite the swimming pool) when heading from the bottom pitch gates towards the sports hall.

• Ensure that the rest of the group is adequately supervised.

• Do not move someone with major injuries unless they are in serious danger of further injury. Wait for the emergency services.

• Contact the injured person’s parent/guardian/next of kin. If telephone number not readily available, contact Sarah Kendall (Junior Manager) on 07786 031309 or Rich Holman (adult members) on 07970 515571.

• Complete an incident/accident report form and return to Club Welfare Officer email Welfare@marlboroughhockey.org.uk or placing in the letterbox in the Kit Shed.

• First Aid kits are available in the Kit Shed and are supplied to each team and will be at pitch side.

• All incidents will be recorded by the club, and information will be made available to relevant committee members as appropriate.
